My WordPress Portfolio

Requirement

I wanted a WordPress site to house my WordPress and web design portfolio.

Solution

Costello Dark by Catch Themes – it looks great and is written by a solid theme provider. I was going to clone this in several technologies so I didn’t want to get tired of looking at it! This theme came with lots of options out of the box, but I only needed the Portfolio for this project.

I created and uploaded a logo, filled in my menus, wrote some content, set up Contact form 7, and used Catch Themes’ To Top plugin. My chosen header image had a lot more color variation than the theme’s default so I created a responsive dark transparency behind the site tagline and header media title to ensure I maintained good contrast between the text and background.

Next, I wanted my resume to be downloadable so I researched plugins for this and settled on Quick Download Button. It’s working great, has a fun hover animation, and only needed a little bit of CSS to bring it into conformity with my other button styles.

Time to add Portfolio content!
